Rising
River is the heartchild of children's author Jacqueline
Davies, who has been teaching classes in how to
write children's books for close to ten years. Former students
were her inspiration: As they graduated from her class
and looked for the next level of instruction, they asked,
"Why don't you offer a writing retreat for serious
writers of children's books?"
It
took a while for their pleas to sink in, but at last
Rising River was born.
Designed
for both published and unpublished writers of children's
books, Rising River offers a unique blend of focused
instruction, guided peer-critique, and sequestered writing
time. Jacqueline is available throughout the day as
a resource for all participants. But the greatest value
of the retreat lies in the strength and purpose that
rises from the community. Every detail of the retreatfrom
the schedule to the locationhas been designed
to maximize writing time and support creativity.
Rising
River is truly a working writer's retreat.
Jacqueline
Davies is the author of five children's books: Where
the Ground Meets the Sky, The Boy Who Drew Birds: A
Story of John James Audubon, The Night Is
Singing, The House Takes a Vacation, and The Lemonade War. She has won numerous awards for her writing.
Her forthcoming titles include Tricking the Tallyman and Disappeared.
